Measles outbreak declared on Merseyside

A measles outbreak has been declared on Merseyside. There are 13 confirmed and 16 suspected cases ranging in age from nine months to adults aged in their 20s. Six people, four children and two adults, required treatment in hospital. This compares to just one confirmed case on Merseyside in the first six weeks of 2011 and one in the corresponding period of 2010.

Update on Legionnaires’ Cluster Associated with a Hotel in Spain

10 February 2012, 1400hrs. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has this week been alerted by the Spanish public health authorities about a further case of Legionnaires’ Disease in a UK resident who stayed at the Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, Costa Blanca, as well as two French cases. This brings the total number of UK residents associated with this cluster to 12, with three deaths.

Baby Clinic

This is held every Tuesday from 13.30 - 15.00 with Dr Tattersfield and the health visitor. This is for well children requiring vaccinations development checks or general advice. There are also special sessions set aside for developmental checks.

Antenatal Clinic

This is held every Tuesday & Wednesday afternoon with the midwife.

Family Planning and Well Woman

This is provided by the doctors & nurses during normal surgery hours.

Asthma & Diabetes

inhaler2 Regular checks for these conditions are provided by the nurses.

Minor Surgery

Procedures such as joint injections are done by the doctors during normal surgery. A weekly Wart Clinic is held at 15.30 – 16.00 every Friday.

Chiropody

A Chiropodist is available at the Downham Health and Leisure Centre. (by referral and appointment)

Osteopathy

An osteopath is available at the surgery on Thursday (by referral).

Counselling

Patients needing counselling may be referred to the practice counsellor or locally to the ‘Northover Centre’.

Dietician

A dietician is available every fortnight on Wednesdays for advice regarding special diets and healthy eating habits (by appointment)

Smoking Cessation

Advice and help for thise wishing to stop smoking is available at a dedicated clinic on Mondays 09:30 - 11:30 or by appointment with the practice nurse or one of the practice doctors.

Test Results

xray The practice has a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection. We will only release test results to the person to whom they relate unless that person has given prior permission for the release of this data or they are not capable of understanding the results.

Please call between 14:00 - 17:00 to enquire about test results. The reception team will be able to tell you whether the results are normal or if the doctor has advised any particular action. Should you need to discuss the results with the doctor they will be happy to talk to you,generally at the end of surgery time.
